Nic Myers joins the cast of Brigadoon at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in the role of Meg Brockie, bringing charm and energy to this long-awaited London revival. The production marks the first major staging of the classic Lerner & Loewe musical in over 35 years.

Directed and choreographed by Olivier Award-winner Drew McOnie, this new adaptation by Rona Munro transports audiences to the mystical Scottish Highlands. With timeless songs like “Almost Like Being in Love” and “The Heather on the Hill,” Brigadoon promises a magical open-air experience.

Brigadoon runs from 2 August to 20 September 2025 at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. Tickets are available now.

You’re starring in Brigadoon at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre – what can you tell us about the show?

I can tell you that it’s going to be MAGICAL. With a capital every letter. Brigadoon has not had a major London revival in over 35 years, so this is an unbelievably exciting thing to be a part of.

When I saw the set and costume designs, I teared up. Every department working on this project really is at the top of their game, and when a group of people like that come together that’s when you can really make some exciting and beautiful art. The cast is stacked with imagination and talent and to put it in the words of Drew on our first day of rehearsals – everyone in the room believes in magic.

Brigadoon is fantastical and, in many ways, mythical but the story is essentially about love and is grounded in truth. It’s about human experience. The score is unbelievably beautiful and what Sarah Travis has done with the arrangements is even more breathtaking.

Brigadoon hasn’t been seen in London for over 35 years. What makes this revival special, and how does it feel to be part of it?

I think what is brilliant about this revival is the care and dedication with which Drew and our writer Rona Munro have approached it. They have been sensitive to the original Lerner and Lowe material, whilst also managing to make it feel new, almost like it was created in 2025.

It was written as a love letter to Scotland and I think at the time that is truly how the creators felt about it; but being America in the 50s there were obviously interpretations about Scotland that were perhaps not so accurate… and what Rona has managed to do is take that love for the Scottish Highlands and make it real.

The vehicle of comedy was previously all directed at women, as in they were often the butt of the joke. Somehow, Drew and Rona with the help of the estate have managed to make these women feel current and empowered and unique from each other. Everyone in the room feels very passionate about bringing truth and contemporary flare to these characters of old and I think that is what is so exciting.

Can you tell us a bit about your character, Meg Brockie, and what drew you to the role?

I love Meg with all my heart. It has been my favourite challenge of my career so far because what you see of Meg on paper in the original material is sparse and she doesn’t really get an ending. But working with Drew has made that a very exciting prospect because really… that means she could be anything… So, in our Brigadoon, Meg is feisty, empowered, is one of the only people in the community who begins and ends the show knowing exactly who she is and what she wants and that positively affects the people around her. She has two of the most brilliant patter songs I’ve ever heard which support this idea that she is the village storyteller, a real pillar of the very small community of Brigadoon. I feel extremely fortunate to be stepping into her shoes!

The show is set in the Scottish Highlands and staged outdoors – how does the setting influence the performance?

Oh my goodness now this is question that is hard for me to answer at this stage since we haven’t seen anything outside of the rehearsal studio yet. However, having seen several shows at Regent’s Park I am so so very excited to see how the timing of our story aligns with the sun set.

Brigadoon is set over the course of one day, on the hills of the Highlands. The most magical thing about Regent’s Park is that Act 1 will always begin in daylight… by the interval dusk hits… and by Act 2 the sun should have set/be setting.

Now when you pair that idea with the orchestrations of that searingly beautiful ‘Brigadoon’ melody as the beautiful Danielle Fiamanya as Fiona says ‘It’s the end of our day’… I can’t be sure… but I think everyone should bring tissues. THAT’S the magic I’m talking about.

What has it been like working with director and choreographer Drew McOnie and the rest of the cast?

The dreamiest dream. Drew is a very open director and choreographer. It’s a real privilege to watch him choreograph on people’s bodies and see how he invents those ideas from a place of storytelling first. As an actor, he has made me feel very held and encouraged to try things and push the limits of the material we’re working with.

It’s very much always; how funny we can make this beat or how much narrative we can fit into this song, but as a team. He’s inspired and I am having the time of my life to be quite honest. The cast are unbelievable; I am baffled with mouth wide open every day. Every single person has such a unique beauty to them and people in that room really take care of their craft.

What would you say to anyone thinking of booking to see Brigadoon?

I would say what are you waiting for why haven’t you booked your ticket? It’s going to be beautiful. If you fancy coming to have a giggle, or have a cry, or just watch beautiful things happen in front of you among a back drop of trees and grows and wind, then you should come along.
