Following eight sold-out workshop performances at The Other Palace in 2024, new musical Redcliffe will receive a fully staged production at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 22 May to 4 July 2026.

Written by Jordan Luke Gage, known for Bonnie & Clyde, Heathers, and &Juliet, Redcliffe is inspired by the haunting true story of William Critchard and Richard Arnold in 18th century Bristol.

Gage will reprise his role as William, which captivated audiences during the workshop run. He said, “it has been my greatest fulfilment creating Redcliffe and exploring the world of 18th century Bristol, a time that was beyond terrifying for men like me to exist in. To be able to tell this story, one which has never been told on the public stage, and to be able to hopefully move, uplift and change people, is beyond thrilling for me as both writer and actor.”

Set in a time of persecution, Redcliffe explores the forbidden love between William, a man of humble origins, and Richard, a sailor visiting the town. Their meeting forces both men to confront the truths of their world and themselves.

The musical features book, music, lyrics and a starring role from Jordan Luke Gage, with musical direction and orchestrations by Ben Tomalin. It has been developed with support from MTFestUK, The Other Palace and Bill Kenwright Limited.
