London City Ballet has opened applications for a new nationwide trainee programme, seeking 20 exceptional graduates ready to transition into professional company life.
The one-year scheme offers intensive daily immersion within the company, giving trainees the opportunity to work directly with Artistic Director Christopher Marney and the artistic team.
Designed to support emerging dancers at the beginning of their careers, the programme is heavily subsidised to relieve participants of university-scale fees often associated with pre-professional training.
Trainees will be fully embedded in the company’s daily schedule, taking part in classes, rehearsals and gaining direct exposure to the realities of touring work.
Applicants must be aged between 18 and 23, be graduate level or equivalent, and have the right to live and work in the UK.
Auditions will take place on 17 May, offers will be issued by the end of May, and the traineeship will run from 31 August 2026 to 9 July 2027.
The launch of the trainee programme comes as London City Ballet enters its third year since its 2023 revival under Christopher Marney.
The company, once the resident troupe of Sadler’s Wells and supported historically by Diana, Princess of Wales, has quickly re-established itself with a blend of classical excellence and contemporary innovation.
Following its 2024 international Resurgence tour across Europe, Asia and the USA, the company was named Best Independent Company at the 2025 National Dance Awards, cementing its place as a major force in the modern dance landscape.
