Rufus Hound, Bronté Barbé, and Natalie Casey will lead the cast of Maid Marian and Her Merry Men, a new stage musical based on Sir Tony Robinson’s beloved BBC TV series.

The production will receive an exclusive industry presentation of its final two-act version on 30 October 2025, ahead of a full production announcement.

With book, music and lyrics by Olivier Award-winning writer Vikki Stone (Hey Duggee: The Live Theatre Show, Cinderella – Lyric Hammersmith), the musical is directed by Benji Sperring (An Act Of God, The Toxic Avenger).

Sir Tony Robinson, who created and starred in the original TV series, joins the production as Executive Producer as it prepares for an anticipated UK premiere in early 2026.

Sherwood Forest is getting a radical retelling. In Maid Marian and Her Merry Men, it’s Marian who leads the rebellion, outsmarting King John, the bumbling Sheriff, and a band of misfit outlaws.

After two years of development and workshops, the musical now arrives in its final form — a riotous comedy packed with slapstick, sharp wit, and a score full of outrageous songs.

Vikki Stone said:
“I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be writing Maid Marian. It was one of my absolute favourite kids TV shows in the ‘90s, and I couldn’t be more excited to be working with comedy legend Sir Tony Robinson on this wonderful show.”

Producer Thomas Hopkins added:
“I’m beyond excited to bring one of my all-time favourite childhood TV shows to life as a brand new British family stage musical. Tony’s hit BBC TV show Maid Marian and Her Merry Men was a huge part of my growing up, and to reimagine it now for the stage, with such an exciting team of creatives and a dream cast is a real honour. I can’t wait for audiences to experience the magic and mayhem we’ve created together in this new musical.”

Bronté Barbé stars as Maid Marian, having recently played Kathy in Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder and Katherine Plumber in Newsies.

Rufus Hound takes on the role of King John. His West End credits include Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, One Man Two Guv’nors, and The Wind In The Willows.

Natalie Casey plays the Sheriff of Nottingham. She is best known for her roles in Hollyoaks and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

The cast also features Mateo Oxley as Robin Hood, Ashley Samuels as Barrington, and Jennie Jacobs as Graham/Old Tony.

The creative team includes Musical Supervisor and Arranger Paul Schofield, Musical Director Gabriel Chernick, Movement Director Sundeep Sani, and Sound Designer Dan Samson. The production is produced by Thomas Hopkins and John Rogerson, with general management by Thomas Hopkins Productions.
