New production images have been released for Man and Boy, Terence Rattigan’s gripping drama about power, corruption and fractured family ties, ahead of its run in the National Theatre’s Dorfman theatre from 30 January to 14 March 2026.

The production marks director Anthony Lau’s National Theatre debut, following his acclaimed work on The Crucible. Ben Daniels stars as Gregor Antonescu with Laurie Kynaston as his estranged son Basil Anthony in this contemporary staging.

Set in 1930s New York during the Great Depression, the play follows international financier Gregor Antonescu as his business empire collapses around him. Seeking refuge in Basil’s apartment, he attempts to rebuild his reputation and reverse his fortunes, forcing long-buried truths to surface.

The cast also includes Phoebe Campbell as Carol Penn, Nick Fletcher as Sven Johnson, Isabella Laughland as Countess Antonescu, Malcolm Sinclair as Mark Herries and Leo Wan as David Beeston.

The creative team features set and costume design by Georgia Lowe, lighting design by Elliot Griggs, intimacy direction by Haruka Kuroda, choreography and movement by Aline David, composition by Angus MacRae and sound design by Giles Thomas. Casting is by Martin Poile, with dialect coaching from Aundrea Fudge and Rachel Lemon serving as staff director.
