The creative team behind the acclaimed and eight-time Tony Award-nominated Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) will present further workshop performances of Mona Loser at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 2 to 5 September 2026.

Featuring an original pop score by British writers Kit Buchan and Jim Barne, the new musical is directed by Tony nominee Tim Jackson and produced by Tim Johanson Productions in association with Birmingham Hippodrome.

Set within the music industry, Mona Loser explores themes of viral fame, fakery and identity, drawing inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the concept of modern-day monsters created both on and offline.

These upcoming performances follow previous workshops at Southwark Playhouse in 2025 and at Birmingham Hippodrome earlier this year, continuing the show’s development with support from the venue’s New Musical Theatre Department.

Audiences attending the workshops will be among the first to experience the evolving musical, with tickets priced at £25 and a limited lottery offering 200 tickets at £15.

Writers Kit Buchan and Jim Barne said: “We’re thrilled to be back at Southwark Playhouse, south London’s beloved shipyard of new musicals, for our third public workshop of Mona Loser. Each time we do this, the audience teaches us something new, and their insights have already been invaluable. We very much hope you can make it; we can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings.”

One lottery winner per performance will also receive a “Monster Package”, including complimentary tickets and drinks.

Full casting for the workshop run is to be announced.
