The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh and Melting Pot have announced the lead casting for the world premiere of One Day, a brand-new musical adaptation of David Nicholls’ bestselling novel.

Olivier Award-nominated Jamie Muscato will take on the role of Dexter. Muscato is currently starring as Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby at the London Coliseum and was recently nominated for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 at the Donmar Warehouse.

Joining him as Emma is powerhouse West End performer Sharon Rose. Her previous credits include Eliza in Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre, Sylvia at the Old Vic, and Caroline, Or Change at Hampstead Theatre.

One Day follows Emma and Dexter, who meet on the night of their graduation—15th July 1988—and revisits them on the same day each year for the next twenty years. Through joy, heartbreak, missed opportunities and second chances, they navigate love, ambition, and the unpredictable twists of life.

This new musical is written by David Greig, with music and lyrics by Abner and Amanda Ramirez of acclaimed US band Johnnyswim, and additional material by Freya Catrin Smith. The production is directed by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Max Webster.

One Day opens at the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh on 27 February 2026, with a press night on 11 March. It forms part of the Lyceum’s 60th anniversary season, the first programmed by new Artistic Director James Brining.
