Production images have been released for CARE, the new play written and directed by Alexander Zeldin, now in previews at the Young Vic Theatre.
The production officially opens on 19 May and runs until 11 July 2026, marking the final Main House show in Nadia Fall’s inaugural season as Artistic Director.
CARE is described as a life-affirming exploration of loss, rebirth and human connection, following a family navigating the challenges of care and ageing.
The story centres on a single mother, her two feuding children and their grandmother, who is moved into a care home after a fall and must adjust to a new environment.
As time passes, the play examines loneliness, resilience and the quiet moments of joy that emerge amid grief and change.
The cast includes Linda Bassett, Rosie Cavaliero, Hayley Carmichael, Taru Devani, Richard Durden, Aoife Gaston, Llewella Gideon, William Lawlor, Ethan Mahony, Ann Mitchell, Diana Payan, Winston Sookhan and Charlie Webb.
A line from the play reads, “I never saw any of that before. All that the birds do… I see it now Will they be gone too?”
The production marks Zeldin’s Young Vic debut following his acclaimed Inequalities trilogy, which includes LOVE, The Confessions and The Other Place.
CARE is adapted from Zeldin’s French-language play Une Mort dans la Famille, which premiered in Paris in 2022.
The creative team includes set designer Rosanna Vize, costume designer Natasha Jenkins, lighting designer James Farncombe and sound designer Josh Anio Grigg.
