The New Vic Theatre will present a rare revival of Big Big Sky by award-winning playwright Tom Wells this July, marking only the second professional production of the heartfelt and uplifting play.

Set in a seaside café in Kilnsea, East Yorkshire, Big Big Sky explores the lives of four interconnected characters in a small-town community on the edge of a changing landscape.

With warmth and humour, the play delves into themes of love, grief, friendship and motherhood, all underscored by live country music, line dancing, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of everyday life.

Directed by Bryn Holding, a former New Vic Resident Assistant Director, the production features a talented cast including Sam Baker-Jones as Ed, Tanya-Loretta Dee as Angie, Roxanne Morgan as Lauren, and Simeon Truby as Dennis.

Holding said: “Playwright Tom Wells, succinctly remarks, Big Big Sky is about ‘love, grief and birdwatching. It is a beautifully crafted piece of work and a great night out! A comedy laced with poignancy and relevance. A play that quietly speaks to us all. A play that celebrates the joy of love, life, friendship and family whilst honouring the complexities of loss. I am overjoyed to be returning to the New Vic this summer to direct Big Big Sky.”
