This autumn, the West End welcomes a daring new staging of Oscar Wilde’s Salomé, presented by Gesher Theatre in collaboration with Theatre Royal Haymarket.
Running from 30 September to 11 October 2025, this highly stylised production is directed by Maxim Didenko, one of Europe’s most acclaimed theatre directors.
Written in 1891 and banned in Britain at the time, Wilde’s lyrical one-act play tells the biblical story of Salomé, the stepdaughter of Herod Antipas, whose obsessive desire for John the Baptist leads to a deadly climax.
“Bold, provocative, and drenched in poetic decadence,” this new production explores themes of power, eroticism, and the price of forbidden longing.
The creative team includes award-winning designer Galya Solodovnikova, French composer Louis Lebe, and lighting designer Gleb Filshtinsky.
Didenko’s vision brings Wilde’s intoxicating world to life, where “beauty becomes a weapon and a kiss can mean death.”
The production is a co-production with Theatre Royal Haymarket and marks Gesher Theatre’s first UK appearance in over 25 years, following their last visit to the Barbican in 1999.
Based in Jaffa, Gesher Theatre is renowned for its international collaborations and its mission to build bridges between cultures. The company has staged over 60 productions since its founding in 1991.
Salomé is produced by Ekaterina Kashyntseva. Casting will be announced at a later date.
