Shedinburgh has announced its return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 7 to 30 August 2026, followed by its first ever London season at the Young Vic Theatre.
The intimate, purpose-built venue will be based at Assembly Checkpoint in Edinburgh before relocating to the Young Vic’s Maria Studio from 19 September to 10 October 2026.
Following its acclaimed launch in 2025, Shedinburgh’s Edinburgh programme will expand to over 70 shows, spanning theatre, comedy, music and cross-genre performance.
The 2026 edition will include specially curated days from Forest Fringe, returning to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the first time in ten years, and Birmingham Hippodrome’s New Musical Theatre department, showcasing new musical theatre across two days.
An expanded Shed Originals programme will also return, partnering with Abbey Theatre, Theatr Clwyd, Lowry and Traverse Theatre to support new work from mid-career artists across the UK and Ireland.
Shedinburgh will then transform the Young Vic’s Maria Studio for a three-week residency, presenting over 40 shows from its Edinburgh programme as part of the London season.
The move marks a significant milestone in the venue’s evolution, bringing Fringe work to a London audience outside the festival period.
Francesca Moody said: “I’m thrilled that Shedinburgh will be returning to Edinburgh this summer, before heading to the Young Vic for its inaugural London residency. At a time when many feel we are in a crisis of new writing, Shedinburgh is creating pathways and space for artists to take risks in a supported environment.”
She added: “With dwindling arts funding and London venues under more pressure than ever, Shedinburgh at the Young Vic is a chance to bring the best of the fringe back to the city and a statement of intent that small-scale work deserves a stage outside of Edinburgh.”
The Young Vic Theatre’s Artistic Director and CEO Nadia Fall said: “The wooden Tardis of the Shedinburgh will be landing at the Young Vic this September and we couldn’t be more excited to have the best of the fringe festival in London town.”
Forest Fringe co-director Andy Field said: “The need for spaces in which to take genuine artistic risks is greater than it ever was. We are thrilled to be returning briefly to the scene of all our biggest crimes.”
Shedinburgh continues its fringe model by offering all artists financial guarantees, travel and accommodation, alongside Pay What You Can tickets for every performance.
Full programme details and on-sale dates will be announced in May 2026.
