Showstopper The Improvised Musical transfers residency to Cambridge Theatre

Showstopper! The Improvised Musical has announced a move to the Cambridge Theatre, home to Matilda the Musical, from 22nd May, continuing their West End success and following their monthly residency at the Lyric.

Adam Meggido & Dylam Emery, Artistic Directors, said ‘After a wonderful seven years at the Lyric, we are delighted to begin a new residency at the Cambridge Theatre. We can’t wait to make up dozens more brand-new spontaneous musicals right in the heart of the West End among all the shows that we know and love. Thanks for having us, LW Theatres!’

Showstopper! is spontaneous musical comedy at its absolute finest. It is the first ever long-form improv show to have a full West End run and to be nominated and win an Olivier Award.

For those that haven’t yet experienced the live phenomenon that is ‘Showstopper! The Improvised Musical’, the show is a fully-realised musical created live on the spot from audience suggestions. The cast take suggestions from the audience for the setting and musical styles and turn them into ingenious storylines, hilarious characters and stunning song and dance numbers. The audience also name that night’s show, which is added to The Showstoppers’ archive of more than 1,200 shows that they have performed since the show’s inception in 2008.

So, whether it’s a Broadway barnstormer or sophisticated Sondheim, whether it’s set in an American high school, ancient Egypt or a coffee shop – if the audience suggests it, The Showstoppers will perform it!

The show has been a ‘must-see’ show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the past 13 years (about to be 14 as it returns to the Pleasance Grand this August). It had a West-End run in 2015 at The Apollo in Shaftesbury Avenue, for which it won its Olivier. In 2019 it also had a run at The Other Palace.
