Musical Theatre Young Singer Award

Stiles + Drewe And The British Theatre Academy Launch The Annual Musical Theatre Young Singer Award

British composers Stiles + Drewe (the award-winning team behind Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Half A Sixpence’, ‘The Wind In The Willows’, ‘Betty Blue Eyes’, ‘Soho Cinders’ and ‘Honk!’) and The British Theatre Academy are launching a search for the next generation of West End talent.

To enter the annual Musical Theatre Young Singer Award, youngsters aged 6 – 18 from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have to video themselves performing a song from any Stiles + Drewe show.

Winners in both 6 – 12 and 13 – 18 categories will be crowned the UK’s Musical Theatre Young Singer of the Year and scoop £200 in theatre gift vouchers.  It is completely free to enter.

With so many youngsters missing out on regular performing arts classes this summer due to the Covid pandemic, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe said: “This virtual competition will hopefully inspire young people to  get their voice heard. Let’s get young artists from around the UK singing again!”

The judging panel will include Stiles + Drewe, theatre producer Danielle Tarento, actor Maiyah Quansah Breed (‘SIX’), director Steven Dexter, casting director Harry Blumenau and Willy Mukendi, who runs one of the UK’s largest musical theatre fan platform, MTAS (The Musical Theatre Appreciation Society).
