The Coronet Theatre has unveiled its Spring 2026 season, presenting six UK premieres that explore the timeless nature of the human condition through dance, theatre, visual art, and poetry.
Artistic Director Anda Winters said:
“As I look at work from all around the world, I am struck by the commonality of the questions artists feel an urgent need to address. Companies from Japan, Norway, UK, Taiwan, USA, Italy, and Korea use dance, theatre, visual art and poetry to consider current environmental challenges, ageing, human connection, living to excess, belief and dystopian futures – issues that are universal and ageless. From New York’s The Wooster Group to Kyoto’s Chiten, these concerns are here seen through a multi-cultural lens.”
The season opens with Kyoto-based Chiten Theatre’s dazzling interpretation of Dostoevsky’s classic novel The Gambler, directed by Motoi Miura and underscored live by experimental rock trio kukangendai. Performances run from 5–15 February.
Norwegian star Kåre Conradi brings his acclaimed one-man lecture performance Peer Gynt from 19–21 February, shedding new light on Ibsen’s legendary play.
From 26–28 February, Neon Dance presents Last and First Men, inspired by Olaf Stapledon’s visionary sci-fi novel, featuring narration by Tilda Swinton and music by Johann Jóhannsson and Yair Elazar Gotman.
Taiwan’s Hung Dance follows with Push and Pull (12–14 March), an award-winning duet exploring the dynamics of relationships through Tai Chi principles.
New York’s The Wooster Group returns with Nayatt School Redux (17–25 April), a contemporary reworking of one of their most famous productions, culminating in sequences from T.S. Eliot’s The Cocktail Party.
Italian company lacasadargilla brings Uccellini (Little Birds) (30 April–2 May), followed by a new production of Caryl Churchill’s Escaped Alone (6–9 May) in collaboration with Piccolo Teatro.
The season concludes with Teatro dei Gordi’s Visite (13–16 May), a delicate parable of life rooted in physical theatre traditions, and a major exhibition by Korean architect Byoung Soo Cho (29 May–6 June).
