Watford Palace Theatre has announced the world premiere of The Mesmerist, an ambitious new production blending theatre and illusion, running from Monday 2nd to Saturday 21st March 2026.

Directed by Steve Marmion, The Mesmerist marks his return to the stage following his appointment as CEO and Director of Programming at Watford Palace Theatre in 2023. Marmion, formerly Artistic Director of Soho Theatre, brings his signature boundary-pushing style to this spellbinding new work.

Fusing real magic with theatrical storytelling, The Mesmerist follows a performer who uncovers a family legacy of magicians. As they prepare to resurrect their grandfather’s forgotten stage act, long-lost illusions come to life, revealing secrets buried deep in the past.

Blending stage magic, audience interaction, and a haunting final twist, The Mesmerist explores themes of memory, identity, and inheritance. It promises to be a love letter to live performance and the generations who came before.

Steve Marmion said:
“An actor (you may know) walks onto the classic Edwardian stage of the Watford Palace Theatre. Their grandfather has recently died. They have inherited a legacy they knew nothing about. A conjuring of magicians from their past. The following 90 minutes are a recreation of that grandfather’s final, fateful show. Complete with original props, cabinets and danger. More than that it is hard to share right now. Because we don’t know yet. One man’s gift, will change everything..”
