York Theatre Royal has announced that Frances Barber will lead the cast of The Psychic, a world premiere from acclaimed writing duo Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman. The production opens on 6 May 2026, with previews from 29 April, and runs until 23 May.
Following the international success of Ghost Stories, Dyson and Nyman return with a new dark thriller centred on TV psychic Sheila Gold. When Sheila loses a high‑profile court case that damages both her reputation and her finances, she seizes an opportunity offered by a wealthy couple seeking to contact their late child. What follows forces her to question everything she believes, spiralling into a chilling psychological journey.
Frances Barber stars as Rosa. Dyson previously worked with Barber on his BAFTA‑nominated drama Funland and the Rose d’Or‑winning Psychobitches. Full casting will be announced soon.
Creators Dyson and Nyman said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be working with Frances again who is an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind talent. After working together on Funland and Psychobitches, we can’t wait to see her bring Rosa to life in this haunting new play.”
The creative team includes Rae Smith as Designer, Chris Fisher as Illusions Designer, Zoe Spurr as Lighting Designer, Nick Manning as Sound Designer, and Arthur Carrington CDG as Casting Director.
Billed as an electrifying new thriller, The Psychic promises a mix of shocks, laughs and twists, drawing on the duo’s signature blend of theatrical suspense.
