The creative team has been revealed for Weird, a brand new British musical set to make its world premiere at Newcastle Theatre Royal in January 2026.
Written by Nick Butcher, Kerri Watt and Fraser Watt, Weird is a pop-powered reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, told through the eyes of three witches.
The production will run for a limited time from Wednesday 28 to Saturday 31 January 2026.
West End and Broadway director Tim Jackson will helm the production, with choreography by Alexzandra Sarmiento.
The full creative team includes Set Designer Andrew Exeter, Costume Designer Gabriella Slade, Lighting Designer Howard Hudson, Sound Designer Paul Gatehouse, and Orchestrator, Musical Supervisor and Co-Arranger Joe Beighton.
Nick Butcher, Kerri Watt and Fraser Watt are award-winning songwriters and chart-topping artists known for their modern musical storytelling, with over 20 million streams to their names.
Nick Butcher is an Emmy and Olivier Award-nominated songwriter, best known for The Little Big Things.
Kerri Watt is a Top 10 artist with performances at Glastonbury, Hyde Park and The Royal Albert Hall, while Fraser Watt is a Berklee College of Music graduate who has worked with Dolly Parton and major media brands.
Producer Michael Harrison has announced that additional seats have been released for the 1.30pm performance on Friday 30 January 2026, with most performances already close to selling out.
More than 5,000 schoolchildren from across the North East will be among the first to see Weird, thanks to a collaboration between Harrison and Newcastle Theatre Royal.
The initiative will waive ticket prices for the first five weekday performances, allowing schoolchildren to attend free of charge.
Michael Harrison said: “When I first read Weird and listened to the incredible soundtrack, I knew I wanted the biggest audience possible to see it so I’m delighted that more seats have now been allocated for members of the public to be part of the world premiere run in Newcastle. It’s fair to say some of us don’t understand Shakespeare – Weird will change that. We hope this is just the beginning and that many more will be able to see this thrilling new British musical.”
