World premiere musical Sea Change announced at Birmingham Hippodrome

BYMT returns to partner venue with new folk-inspired musical by Elinor Peregrin and Will Jackson

BYMT has announced the world premiere of Sea Change, a brand new musical, to be presented at Birmingham Hippodrome this summer.

The production runs from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August 2026, with four performances scheduled.

Written by 2025 New Music Theatre Award winners Elinor Peregrin and Will Jackson, Sea Change is directed by Jackson and choreographed by Eleanor Rattenbury.

       

The musical features set and costume design by Kritika Agarwal, with musical direction by Sarah Morrison.

Reviewers are welcome from the first performance on Friday 28 August at 7.15pm.

Bursting with folk melodies, nautical ballads and sea shanties, Sea Change draws on Selkie folklore to tell a modern story set in Britain.

The musical explores the emotional pull between heritage and the possibility of transformation, centring on themes of identity, belonging and change.
