Donmar Warehouse has announced the full cast for The Maids, a bold new translation of Jean Genet’s classic play, written and directed by Kip Williams.

Yerin Ha, Phia Saban and Lydia Wilson will lead the cast in this world premiere production, which runs from 13 October to 29 November 2025, with a press night on Tuesday 21 October.

Kip Williams makes his Donmar debut with The Maids, following his critically acclaimed reimagining of The Picture of Dorian Gray, and ahead of his upcoming adaptation of Dracula starring Cynthia Erivo.

“My spurt of saliva is my spray of diamonds,” reads a line from Genet’s provocative text.

With their mistress away, two maids act out their darkest fantasies, obsessively role-playing her murder until the line between performance and reality begins to blur.

This new translation of The Maids is described as a compelling, timely parable of modern identity and the destructive desire to both emulate and annihilate those we idolize.

The creative team includes Rosanna Vize (Set Designer), Marg Horwell (Costume Designer), Jon Clark (Lighting Designer), Dan Balfour (Sound Designer), DJ Walde (Composer), and Zakk Hein (Video Designer).

Jean Genet’s other works include The Balcony, The Blacks, The Screens, Deathwatch, and Splendid’s, alongside novels such as Our Lady of the Flowers and The Thief’s Journal.

Kip Williams is a multi-award-winning director and former Artistic Director of Sydney Theatre Company. His recent works include Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, Suddenly Last Summer, and Lord of the Flies with Mia Wasikowska.

Yerin Ha’s credits include Lord of the Flies (STC), Halo, Dune: Prophecy, and the upcoming Bridgerton series as Sophie Baek.

Phia Saban has appeared in Oedipus (Wyndham’s Theatre), House of the Dragon, and The Last Kingdom.

Lydia Wilson’s extensive stage credits include The 47th, Walden, The Duchess of Malfi, and King Charles III, with screen appearances in Funny Woman, Flack, Star Trek Beyond, and the upcoming Disney+ series Alice and Steve.
