Fame Whore at Above The Stag Theatre

Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 Above The Stag will close on 16th January until 1st March 2022 and this production will no longer go ahead – Above The Stag Theatre announces Fame Whore as its first major show of 2022. Originally developed as part of the 2021 Contact new writing season, it returns in this four-week-only flagship production that examines the true cost of fame.

When drag artist Becky Biro is told they need a larger following to be considered for the internationally revered reality competition The Drag Factor, Becky can smell success. She will do whatever it takes to get there and reap the rewards of her inevitable stardom. Mark her words, Becky will be famous.

From the writer of the multi-award winning VELVET (Tom Ratcliffe) comes an outrageous, fast-paced dark comedy filled with irreverence and cabaret songs. Fame Whore holds a mirror up to the ugly truth of the widespread desire for relevance and the lengths we may go to get there.

Above The Stag Theatre’s artistic director and chairman Matthew Baldwin describes Fame Whore as having “big laughs, spectacular songs and a laser sharp script that takes us into the dark heart of the drag industry from the people who really know. A truly virtuoso show from Tom Ratcliffe and Crayola The Queen.”

Written and directed by Tom Ratcliffe with lyrics by Crayola The Queen, Fame Whore is at Above The Stag Theatre 2 – 27 February 2022.
