The Almeida Theatre has announced a one-week extension for American Psycho, Rupert Goold’s acclaimed production based on Bret Easton Ellis’s novel.
The musical will now run until Saturday 21 March, with tickets for the final week newly released.
Goold’s production returns following its previous sell-out success, bringing back the darkly satirical story of Patrick Bateman. Bateman appears to have everything, from wealth and style to a high-profile fiancée, yet there is a disturbing side of his life that few see. As his colleagues and associates begin to disappear, the glossy façade of 1980s excess starts to crack.
The production features a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik. Choreography is by Lynne Page, with set design by Es Devlin, costume design by Katrina Lindsay, lighting design by Jon Clark and sound design by Dan Moses Schreier. Video design is by Finn Ross, with music supervision and vocal arrangements by David Shrubsole and musical direction by Ellen Campbell. Casting is by Natalie Gallacher for Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher Casting.
The Almeida describes the production as an “outrageously entertaining” musical that offers a sharp critique of capitalism while keeping audiences “dangerously entertained”.
American Psycho is supported by Dianne Roberts and The Charlotte Aitken Trust, with thanks to Chava Yentl and Stamos J Fafalios. The original production was presented by the Almeida Theatre in association with Act 4 and Headlong.
