English National Opera will present a bold new staging of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny from 16 to 20 February 2026 at the London Coliseum. The production marks André de Ridder’s debut conducting engagement as ENO’s Music Director Designate.

Directed by Jamie Manton, the opera features a distinguished cast led by internationally acclaimed soprano Danielle de Niese as Jenny Smith, alongside mezzo soprano Rosie Aldridge, bass Kenneth Kellogg, and tenor Mark Le Brocq. New Zealand-born heldentenor Simon O’Neill makes his ENO debut as Jimmy MacIntyre.

This rarely performed masterpiece is a biting satire on greed and excess, blending Brecht’s sharp lyrics with Weill’s electrifying score of jazz, cabaret and ragtime. It includes the famous Alabama Song, which has been recorded by artists from David Bowie to The Doors.

The cast also includes Elgan Llŷr Thomas, Alex Otterburn, David Shipley and Zwakele Tshabalala, supported by the ENO Chorus and Orchestra. The production is designed by Milla Clarke, with lighting by D.M. Wood and choreography by Lizzi Gee.

Performances take place on 16, 18 and 20 February at 7.30pm. Tickets start from £15, with free tickets for under 21s and discounts for 21–35 year olds.
