The award-winning Arcola Theatre and Oberon Books are proud to announce the publication of Global Queer Plays: Seven LGBTQ Works From Around the World, a collection of short plays exploring how queer lives are depicted and lived – and how queer stories are told – in theatre around the world.

This new collection of short plays will be launched on 9 December at Arcola Theatre from 6pm. Emcee’d by queer performer and activist Dan de la Motte, the launch will feature Queer performances from the worlds of comedy and cabaret. In addition, the event will also be a fundraiser for Arcola Queer Collective, a performance collective exploring queer identity and how to present it theatrically. Arcola Queer Collective is open to anyone identifying as LGBTQI* in East London.

Arcola’s Participation Manager Bec Martin-Williamson says about the event: “Arcola Participation is thrilled to be partnering with Oberon books on Global Queer Plays: Seven LGBTQ Works From Around the World. Originally presented as part of Creative/Disruption, Arcola’s festival of Community and Participation work, these plays interrogate the underrepresentation of Queer narratives on stage and engage in non-western Queer narratives. The Global Voices project allows us to hear a wider range of voices and perspectives, and with this publication from Oberon, we are delighted that even more people can access these perspectives.”

Tickets for the launch event can be purchased here.
