Full casting has been announced for the world premiere stage adaptation of Mrs Armitage on Wheels, which runs from 18 to 21 February as part of Southbank Centre’s Imagine festival.

The new musical brings Quentin Blake’s iconic character to life with puppetry and original music. It has been adapted and directed by Samantha Lane, artistic director of Little Angel Theatre.

Gillian Kirkpatrick will star as Mrs Armitage, joined by Thomas Walton as Breakspear and James Keningale as Ensemble. The cast reunites a group of performers experienced in family theatre and musical storytelling.

The adaptation is based on the award‑winning BBC animated series Quentin Blake’s Box of Treasures, available on BBC iPlayer. It has been developed in association with Eagle Eye and Little Angel Theatre.

Celebrating imagination and community, the production follows the eccentric inventor Mrs Armitage as she upgrades her trusty bicycle with increasingly inventive additions during a journey with her dog Breakspear.
