Ardent Theatre Company will present Drifting, a poignant new play by Andrew Muir, at Southwark Playhouse Borough from Tuesday 18 November to Saturday 22 November.
Set in a coastal town cloaked in sea mist, Drifting follows a 26-year-old man wrestling with the weight of expectation, the pull of home, and the dream of escape.
Through surreal encounters, biting dialogue and moments of aching tenderness, Drifting captures the voice of a generation navigating economic uncertainty, fractured identity and the elusive promise of a better life.
The cast includes Toby Batt, Olivia McGrath, Trae Walsh, Olivia Israel, Phoebe Woodbridge, Yarrow May Spillane, Amirah Abimbola Alabere, and Lewis Allen.
The production is written and directed by Andrew Muir, with stage management by Chloe Brown. Publicity design is by Sean Longmore, with photography by Jimmy Lee Portraits and Mark Douet.
Drifting is supported by Cockayne Grants for the Arts, The Foyle Foundation, The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, The Boris Karloff Charitable Foundation, and several individual donors including Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Emma Thompson, and Ciarán Hinds.
The production is part of Ardent Theatre Company’s ARDENT8 programme, which supports emerging actors from working-class backgrounds through workshops, mentoring and professional performance opportunities.
Ardent Theatre Company was founded in 2014 with a mission to end class inequality in the arts. In 2025, the company launched its 10-year Manifesto for Change to drive systemic reform across the theatre industry.
