The remarkable true story of cycling legend Cadel Evans returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with the award-winning CADEL: Lungs On Legs, a thrilling solo show that places audiences directly in the saddle alongside the only Australian to win the Tour de France.
Created and performed by Connor Delves, who also co-wrote the piece with Steve McMahon, the production charts Evans’ extraordinary rise from Australian cyclist to international sporting icon. In a feat of endurance mirroring its subject, Delves remains on stage throughout the performance, pedalling live on the same model of bike Evans rode to his historic 2011 Tour de France victory.
Combining immersive storytelling, dynamic design and race commentary from legendary cycling broadcaster Phil Liggett, the production recreates the intensity, sacrifice and determination required to compete at the highest level of professional sport.
Delves brings a personal connection to the story, having grown up in a cycling family. His father competed alongside Evans during the 1990s, while his mother was recognised with the WA Sport Award’s May Campbell Medal. Directed and dramaturged by Mark Barford, the production has already enjoyed sold-out seasons in Edinburgh and Australia, earning multiple awards and widespread critical acclaim.
With its blend of athletic achievement, theatrical innovation and emotional storytelling, CADEL: Lungs On Legs offers a compelling portrait of one of cycling’s greatest champions.
CADEL: Lungs On Legs runs at Gilded Balloon at the Museum from 6 – 30 August at 17:55. Tickets are on sale here
