Satirist, actor and viral internet sensation Rosie Holt brings her new comedy Churchill’s Urinal to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, a rambunctious romp through the corridors of power that imagines a political scandal of truly national importance.
Freshly installed at 11 Downing Street, a determined Chancellor of the Exchequer decides it is finally time to remove an ageing urinal from her official residence. However, outrage erupts when it emerges that the porcelain fixture was once used by Winston Churchill himself. As the debate spirals into a full-blown national controversy, the Chancellor finds herself fighting to hold on to her authority while commentators, campaigners and the public all weigh in on the future of the historic bathroom artefact.
Written by and starring Holt, with additional material by Stewart Lee, the play marks the world premiere of a project first seen as a reading at Shedinburgh. Holt is best known for her hugely popular online political satire videos, which have amassed more than nine million views and earned her the Chortle Social Media Award.
The production is directed by Daniel Clarkson, whose credits include The Crown Live!, Potted Potter, Potted Panto and Biff To The Future. Together they promise a sharp and hilarious examination of politics, patriotism and the nation’s obsession with its own history.
Churchill’s Urinal runs at Lomond Theatre at Pleasance at EICC from 13 – 23 August at 14:00. Tickets are on sale here
