Celebrating his 30th anniversary at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in style, poet and comic John Hegley returns with New and Selected (Potatoes).
Verse spoken and sung alongside large author drawings, John Hegley brings his unique take on Keats, Caravaggio, some French Baroque composers. And his brother-in-law. Devised for adults, but not exclusive of the intelligent 9 year old (8, if wearing spectacles), John’s newest hour is a lyrical treat to behold.
John Hegley first came to the public attention performing with The Popticians on Carrott’s Lib. Along with his backing band he recorded two sessions with legendary DJ John Peel, before going on to publish his poetry in a number of collections including Visions of the Bone Idol and Glad to Wear Glasses.
As well as being an acclaimed poet Hegley has made a career out of live performances, having become a mainstay at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and appearing at Glastonbury Festival for the last five years. Hegley’s show ‘Alphaboat’ was named ‘one of the ten best kids’ shows at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival’ by The Guardian, highlighting the range of appeal the comic has to audiences both young and old. Hegley also found success through his BBC Radio series ‘Hearing with Hegley’ and the BBC Radio 4 shows ‘The Adventures of John and Tony’ and ‘Who Does John Hegley Think He Is’. He played a fundamental part in the Sony Radio Award winning show ‘Warning: May Contain Nuts’, a comedy project aimed at raising awareness for people suffering from mental illness.

John is also performing a younger audience friendly show, Morning Wordship, at the Pleasance Courtyard at 10.30am on the 4th, 5th, 9th – 12th and 16th – 19th August.
