Gilded Balloon has revealed the first shows in its 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe programme, with 17 productions now on sale across comedy, theatre, musicals, cabaret, magic and improv.

The announcement is led by the return of Doris, Dolly and the Dressing Room Divas, the five-star audience favourite packed with sharp wit, rich harmonies and backstage stories about Doris Day, Dolly Parton, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli and a delightfully outrageous Julie Andrews.

Critically acclaimed as “witty, impressive, rapturous” (★★★★★ Herald) and “a wonderful night at the theatre” (★★★★★ All Edinburgh Theatre), with Graham Norton calling it “hilarious and heartbreaking with a soundtrack to die for”, the show returns to Gilded Balloon Patter House for 2026. It features an all-female cast and creative team including original cast members Gail Watson, Frances Thorburn and Clare Waugh, written and directed by Morag Fullarton with musical director Hilary Brooks.

The announcement also marks the long-awaited reopening of Gilded Balloon’s beloved Teviot Row House in Bristo Square. The venue returns with upgraded performance spaces and facilities while preserving the atmosphere that made it a Fringe cornerstone for 25 years.

Audiences can expect a vibrant festival experience across four venues, including Patter House, the National Museum of Scotland, and the newly introduced year-round pub venue, the Gilded Saloon.

Karen and Katy Koren, Artistic Directors of Gilded Balloon, said:
“Announcing our first shows on sale is always one of our favourite moments – it’s when the Fringe really starts to come alive. We’re especially thrilled to bring back the fabulous Doris, Dolly and the Dressing Room Divas, which audiences absolutely adored, alongside such a brilliant mix of comedy, theatre, cabaret, musicals, magic, improv and more. 2026 is a particularly special year as we return to our home of 25 years -Teviot Row House, the venue that means so much to us, to artists and to audiences. With upgraded spaces and an exciting first wave of shows now on sale, we can’t wait to welcome everyone back and share what’s shaping up to be a fantastic Fringe.”

Comedy highlights include Christopher Hall’s new show Pizazz, sketch favourite Biscuit Barrel: The 69-Sketch Show, and John Robertson’s The Dark Room, returning with new “death-traps”. Improv fans can enjoy Locomotive for Murder: The Improvised Whodunnit, The Improvised Shakespeare Show, and Tartan Tabletop: A Dungeons & Dragons Comedy.

Comedy line-ups also feature Best of the Queer Fringe, showcasing LGBTQ+ stand-up talent, and Married at Fringe Sight, the crowd-work hit where the audience decides who marries whom by the end of the night.

Theatre offerings include CADEL: Lungs on Legs, telling the true story of Tour de France winner Cadel Evans, and the acclaimed Wiesenthal, based on Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesenthal.

Musicals and cabaret include Arthur Hull’s award-winning FLOP! The Best Songs from the Worst Musicals, and the high-energy British musical GIRLZ, returning after its Best Musical nomination last year.

Magic and spectacle come courtesy of global phenomenon Insane Magic with 1 Hour of Insane Magic, circus-comedy hit 1 Hour of Insanity, Elliot Bibby’s high-energy Abracadada, and hypnotist Matt Hale’s Funbelievable! 90s Rewind.

Further programme announcements are expected in the coming months.
