Birmingham Hippodrome, in association with Vicky Graham Productions, has announced that the new romcom musical Hot Mess will transfer to Southwark Playhouse Elephant this autumn.

The production will run from Thursday 16 October to Saturday 8 November 2025, following its world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Created by the award-winning duo behind 42 Balloons, Jack Godfrey and Ellie Coote, Hot Mess reimagines the climate crisis as a turbulent love story between Earth and Humanity.

West End stars Danielle Steers (SIX The Musical, The Cher Show) and Tobias Turley (winner of ITV’s Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream) lead the cast as Earth and Humanity respectively.

After a billion years of bad dates, Earth finally finds the one—Humanity. Sparks fly, wheat is harvested, and technology flourishes. But what begins as a passionate love affair quickly descends into a Hot Mess.

Jon Gilchrist, Artistic Director and CEO at Birmingham Hippodrome, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to continue Hot Mess’s journey beyond Edinburgh Festival Fringe with a London transfer to Southwark Playhouse Elephant. Ellie and Jack have created a sharp, heartfelt romcom and with West End stars Danielle Steers and Tobias Turley at the helm, this show is guaranteed to be full of character, charm and catchy tunes.”

The creative team includes Paul Gatehouse (Sound Designer), Joe Beighton (Musical Supervisor and Co-orchestrator), Alexzandra Sarmiento (Movement Director), Shankho Chaudhuri (Set and Costume Designer), and Ryan Joseph Stafford (Lighting Designer).

Hot Mess is the first production from Birmingham Hippodrome’s in-house New Musical Theatre Department to transfer to London.
