Award-winning theatre company ThickSkin is set to terrify audiences across the UK with its latest production, It Walks Around The House At Night, a chilling ghost story infused with dark humour.
Written by Manchester-based playwright Tim Foley (Electric Rosary, Doctor Who audio series), the play follows Joe, an out-of-work actor who takes a job playing a ghost at a countryside manor, only to discover real horrors lurking in the shadows.
George Naylor (The Mousetrap, Room 13) stars as Joe, joined by Oliver Baines (Frantic Assembly’s Othello, The House Party) as The Dancer. Together, they bring to life a haunting tale filled with jump scares and spine-tingling moments.
Tim Foley said, “I’m so delighted to be working with ThickSkin again after our hit with Driftwood. This time we’re making a horror show full of shocks and scares, something I’ve always wanted to do. How can a company that’s so lovely make work that’s so terrifying? This is the best kind of theatre with the best kind of theatre-makers.”
Directed by ThickSkin’s Artistic Director Neil Bettles (How Not To Drown, Disney’s Bedknobs & Broomsticks), the production features sound design by Tony Award-winner Pete Malkin and lighting by Olivier Award-winner Joshua Pharo.
Neil Bettles commented, “I’m excited to share this twisted new ghost story with our friends across the country. It’s a thrilling and complex play about power and manipulation that will send a shiver up the strongest of spines.”
ThickSkin, based in Wigan, is known for its inventive touring productions that blend new writing, movement, and design. The company continues to push boundaries with work that is bold, collaborative, and rooted in contemporary culture.
It Walks Around The House At Night runs from 3rd to 28th February 2026, with performances at venues including Chichester Festival Theatre, New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich, Watford Palace Theatre, ARC Stockton, Theatre by the Lake Keswick, and Leeds Playhouse.
