The West End transfer of John Proctor Is the Villain has been announced, with Kimberly Belflower’s acclaimed play set to open at Wyndham’s Theatre for a strictly limited 12-week season.
Directed by Tony Award-winner Danya Taymor, the production follows a sold out and critically lauded run at the Royal Court Theatre and will play at the Delfont Mackintosh venue from Tuesday 2 February until Saturday 24 April 2027.
Tickets go on sale at 2.00pm tomorrow, Tuesday 21 April 2026, with casting for the West End engagement yet to be announced.
Playwright Kimberly Belflower and director Danya Taymor said: “Bringing John Proctor is the Villain to the West End is a true honour and profound joy for us, especially on the heels of its very witchy UK debut in the Royal Court’s 70th anniversary season. The play has been igniting London audiences, and we have fallen deeply in love with this great city. We are so grateful that our spells worked and more people will be able to see the play here—and come back again and again—at the incredible Wyndham’s Theatre in 2027.”
Set in a small town pulsing with pop music, adrenaline and barely contained rage, the story follows five young women as buried truths surface and they begin to reclaim control of their own narrative.
Heralded as one of the most compelling new plays of recent years, the production explores girlhood, power, and the courage it takes to challenge accepted truths.
John Proctor Is the Villain premiered on Broadway at the Booth Theatre in March 2025, earning seven Tony Award nominations including Best Play.
Its London premiere at the Royal Court Theatre began on 20 March 2026, where it continues to play to sold out audiences until Saturday 25 April.
The creative team includes scenography by AMP featuring Teresa L. Williams, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design and original composition by Palmer Hefferan, projection design by Hannah Wasileski, and movement direction by Tilly Evans-Krueger.
Additional creatives include voice and dialect coach Gigi Buffington, casting director Julia Horan CDG, and dramaturg Lauren Halvorsen.
The production is presented by Wagner Johnson Productions, Wessex Grove, Sonia Friedman Productions, Runyonland, Spark Productions, John Mara Jr., and the Royal Court Theatre.
