MGCfutures has launched futures Remixed, a brand new podcast series bringing together artists at the forefront of contemporary theatre to explore the future of the industry.

Introduced by award winning director and MGCfutures founder Michael Grandage, the inaugural series, Universal Stories, examines how theatre resonates with audiences by connecting personal experience with the world around us.

Across six episodes, previous MGCfutures Bursary recipients gather at Wyndham’s Theatre in London’s West End to discuss the ways theatre can influence cultural, social and political change. Guests include Chisara Agor, Waleed Akhtar, Rebecca Frecknall, Ruth D’Silva, Somebody Jones, Isley Lynn, Rachel Mars, Rebecca Prentice, David Ralf, Mark Smith and Clarissa Widya.

The first episode, available now, features a conversation between Michael Grandage and director Rebecca Frecknall, exploring the idea of universality and its importance to theatre’s future. Subsequent episodes focusing on Belonging, Love, Power, Freedom and Hope will be released bi weekly until 15 April.

Michael Grandage said today, “futures Remixed strengthens MGCfutures’ commitment to supporting theatre makers by engaging previous bursary recipients in much needed conversations about our industry. I hope this inaugural series will inspire listeners to reflect on theatre’s ability to move an audience through the stories that resonate with all of us.”

Rebecca Frecknall comments in episode 1, “For me, so much about why I go to the theatre is about connection and emotional resonance, and I want to be transformed in some way.”

Waleed Akhtar adds in episode 2, “Through specificity is universality…it’s always trying to be as specific and truthful to that experience as possible and then hoping to tap into something universal through that.”

Isley Lynn says in episode 3, “I have yet to read, see or hear a story that is not about love in some way…so maybe love is part of that connective tissue but looking at love in new ways is maybe our job.”

The podcast is produced by MGCfutures, with Blayne George as Executive Producer, Daniel Gonzalez as Creative Producer, Kashish Gaba as Associate Producer and Alex Lynch as Audio Producer. Original music is by Josh Anio Grigg.
