Original Theatre has announced the full cast for the world premiere tour of Murder at Midnight, a brand-new comedy thriller by acclaimed playwright Torben Betts.

The production will tour the UK from September 2025, following the success of Betts’ previous hit, Murder in the Dark.

Directed by Philip Franks, Murder at Midnight stars Jason Durr (Heartbeat, Casualty) as Jonny ‘The Cyclops’, Susie Blake (Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV, Coronation Street) as Shirley, Max Bowden (EastEnders) as Paul, and Katie McGlynn (Coronation Street, Hollyoaks) as Lisa.

They are joined by Callum Balmforth as Russell, Peter Moreton as Trainwreck, and Iryna Poplavska as Cristina, with Bella Farr and Andy McLeod as Police Officers and understudies.

Set on New Year’s Eve in a quiet corner of Kent, Murder at Midnight introduces a notorious gangster, his glamorous wife, a jittery carer, a suspicious vicar, and a burglar dressed as a clown. With a suitcase full of cash, a stash of weapons, and one infamous unsolved murder, chaos is guaranteed.

The production promises “a murder mystery with a difference. One house. Seven suspects… and a murder at midnight.”

Written by Torben Betts and produced by Original Theatre in association with Joshua Beaumont and Huw Allen, the play blends razor-sharp wit with chilling suspense.

“Murder at Midnight is a gripping murder mystery filled with twists, chilling suspense and wickedly dark humour – guaranteed to keep you guessing until the final stroke of midnight,” said the producers.

The creative team includes Designer Colin Falconer, Lighting Designer Jason Taylor, Sound Designer and Composer Max Pappenheim, and Casting Director Ellie Collyer-Bristow. Fight and intimacy direction is by Ruth Cooper-Brown and Carlotta De Gregori for Rc-Annie.

Max Bowden is confirmed for 2025 venues only.
