Written by award-winning playwright Willy Russell, Blood Brothers is widely regarded as “one of the best musicals ever written” (Sunday Times). Bill Kenwright’s production has surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End and is affectionately known as the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as it “brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” (Daily Mail).
The musical has enjoyed international success with sell-out seasons in the U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Japan. It has won four Best Musical awards in London and received seven Tony Award nominations on Broadway.
Blood Brothers began life as a play performed at a Liverpool comprehensive school in 1981, before opening at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1983. Earlier this year, the production returned to Liverpool for a two-week run at the Empire Theatre, marking its 100th anniversary with a record-breaking season.
The score features iconic songs including Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe, and the emotionally charged Tell Me It’s Not True.
The musical tells the poignant story of twins separated at birth who grow up on opposite sides of the social divide, only to meet again with tragic consequences.
Willy Russell’s other acclaimed works include Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine, both of which have enjoyed successful stage and screen adaptations.
