The Anti “Yogi” Brings a Sharp Satire of Wellness Culture to Soho Theatre This May

Blue Quill Collective has announced the London run of The Anti “Yogi”, coming to Soho Theatre from 6 to 16 May.

Created and performed by Indian American yoga instructor and multidisciplinary artist Mayuri Bhandari, the show takes aim at the Western commodification of yoga.

Drawing on her experiences as the only person of Indian heritage in predominantly white yoga classes, Bhandari uses dance, poetry, live percussion and projection to expose the absurdities of “wellness capitalism”.

In the piece she performs as Kali, the Hindu goddess of death, who arrives on Earth only to mistake the world of modern yoga for a battlefield. Through comedic multi‑roling, she recounts the microaggressions she has faced as a South Asian Jain woman and the ways she has been corrected on her own culture.

The show won awards at Hollywood Fringe in 2024 and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2025, where it received multiple accolades for outstanding solo performance.

Speaking about the production, Mayuri Bhandari said: “Our show is to be felt, not just intellectually understood. At its core, The Anti “Yogi” is a call to action, not only to reflect a mirror back, but to call out our own ignorance through humor and depth. To bring this show from Edinburgh Fringe to London for its West End Premiere at Soho Theatre has been surreal. We have such an incredible, growing community both on and offline, and having the chance to include London and its massive South Asian community in this conversation is a huge milestone for our production. It’s a show for everyone. We can’t wait to see how the energy of London shapes this living, breathing story.”

The Anti “Yogi” is directed by Shyamala Moorty and D’Lo, with live percussion by Neel Agrawal. The creative team also includes lighting designer Nick Foran and sound designer Mark Holden of Invisible Studios.

Performances run at Soho Theatre from 6 to 16 May, with a press night on Thursday 7 May at 6.45pm.
