Young Voices has delivered the Wicked Worldwide Singalong, uniting more than 350,000 singers across 30 countries in a global musical celebration. Participants from schools, choirs, community groups and individuals joined together to perform a specially arranged medley from Wicked.
At the centre of the event was a live performance at The O2 in London on Thursday 22 January, where 9,000 children sang together. They were joined on stage by Emma Kingston, who plays Elphaba in the West End production. The medley highlighted the musical’s themes of friendship, courage and self-belief.
The singalong marked two key milestones as Young Voices celebrates its 30th anniversary and Wicked marks 20 years in the West End at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.
Children and singers took part from the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Brazil, Germany, China, Republic of Korea and Hong Kong. Participation ranged from solo performers to community groups of more than 700 people, making it one of the largest coordinated singalongs ever staged.
The event was delivered in collaboration with American Young Voices and partners Wicked, Hal Leonard and Twinkl, enabling schools and groups to join from classrooms, rehearsal rooms and performance venues worldwide. Young Voices thanked all partners, teachers, schools and singers for their contributions.
The Wicked Worldwide Singalong demonstrated the unifying power of music, bringing people together across borders and time zones for a shared global moment.
