Acosta Danza Yunior will perform Next Generation at Lighthouse Poole on 9 and 10 June, followed by dates at Sadler’s Wells East from 17 to 20 June.

Presented by Carlos Acosta, the programme features the newest graduates from his Cuban Dance Academy and celebrates a new wave of professional dancers emerging from Havana.

The evening is described as a production full of energy, technical skill and Cuban passion, evoking the landscapes, light and shadow of the Caribbean island.

The programme includes Fuga by Susana Pous, which explores the tragedy of constant migration through confined movement and themes of struggle, loss and absence.

Mundo Interpretado (Interpreted World) by Juliano Nunes journeys from collective sentiment to spiritual essence, with an installation of water lily flowers by Cuban visual artist Glenda León creating a delicate stage environment.

New for this season, Didy Veldman has created a work that exploits the physicality of the young dancers, drawing on a rich Cuban dance tradition.

The programme concludes with Capriccio by Kit Holder, inspired by René Magritte’s iconic painting series The Lovers, transforming the surreal imagery into movement.

Founded in 2023, Acosta Danza Yunior provides an essential platform for newly graduated dancers to develop their craft and bring contemporary Cuban dance to international stages.
