The London premiere of CADEL: Lungs On Legs will run at Riverside Studios from 13 October to 15 November, presented by James Seabright.
Created and performed by Connor Delves, the critically acclaimed solo show tells the true story of cycling legend Cadel Evans, the only Australian to win the Tour de France.
The production places audiences at the heart of Evans’ extraordinary journey, with Delves pedalling live on stage on the same model of bike used in the 2011 Tour de France.
The show blends storytelling, live race commentary, immersive design and physical endurance to chart the sacrifices, setbacks and determination behind elite cycling success.
CADEL: Lungs On Legs is directed and dramaturged by Mark Barford, with writing by Delves and Steve McMahon.
The production returns to the UK fresh from a sold-out Australian tour and a critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe, where it won Best Show of the Fringe from Theatre Weekly and received an EFFTA Award.
Speaking about the production, the real Cadel Evans said: “I have always been well aware of the drama, thrill, and often suspense of cycling – but now, I get to see my sport as an art form. It has been a privilege and an honour to entertain spectators and followers of cycling as an athlete in competition, and I’m excited for them – and for those new to the sport – to experience the drama, effort, unpredictability, and suspense of major races in a completely new way.”
He added: “Connor’s vision for this show is bold and exciting, and I’m thrilled to be involved from the start. His dedication to every detail – the training, and the physical demands of the production – reflects the same passion and commitment I’ve always brought to the bike.”
The London run follows festival success across the UK and internationally, with the show also previously awarded Best of Theatre Weekly at Adelaide Fringe and receiving an OFFIE nomination.
