Casting has been announced for The Oresteia, written and directed by Simon Stone after Aeschylus and others, opening at the Bridge Theatre this July.
Mary-Louise Parker will play Montie, with David Morrissey as Christopher, Tom Glynn-Carney as Augie and Rosie Sheehy as Alice.
They are joined in the cast by Lloyd Hutchinson as Melville, John Macmillan as Jerome and Archie Madekwe as Lorenzo.
The production begins previews at the Bridge Theatre on Thursday 2 July 2026, with opening night set for Tuesday 14 July, and will run for 11 weeks until Saturday 19 September.
Mary-Louise Parker said: āThe Oresteia has intrigued me for a long time so Iām thrilled to be bringing it to life with Simon. I saw his Yerma in New York and thought it was one of the greatest things Iāve ever seen in my life.ā
David Morrissey said: āI saw both Phaedra and Yerma and was knocked out by both of those productions so Iām really looking forward to teaming up with Simon on The Oresteia. These stories have been handed down for centuries but thereās something incredibly modern and relatable about them, ultimately theyāre about the human condition and weāll always be fascinated by that.ā
Tom Glynn-Carney said: āSimon has such a reputation for making memorable, poignant, dramatic, relevant work, reinventing classical texts like The Oresteia with a fresh, modern lens. These stories are timeless, repeating themselves throughout history, itās already so evident as an acting challenge itās going to be really creatively fulfilling.ā
Rosie Sheehy said: āI went to watch Phaedra four times, so being in one of Simonās shows has been on the bucket list for a while. The Oresteia is rarely done so if you can get the chance to be in it you should grab it with both hands! We might think weāve advanced massively over the last couple of millennia but the themes and emotions at the heart of these stories are still so relevant and the need for humanity to watch humanity on stage still so important.ā
Simon Stone returns to the Bridge Theatre following The Lady from the Sea, bringing his distinctive contemporary approach to one of theatreās most enduring texts.
He said: āThe Oresteia is one of the theatreās great foundational texts and it hasnāt lost any of its potency to this day. A family haunted by its part in an unjust war, the painful burden of inherited trauma and inter-generational conflict, the descent into an increasingly merciless vortex of violence: as long as humankind wages wars and as long as families tear themselves apart this story will remain painfully, cathartically relevant. It is with great excitement that we embark on bringing this tale into our times at the Bridge Theatre.ā
The production reimagines the ancient tragedy through a modern lens, following a contemporary family trapped in a cycle of violence and fate drawn from Greek myth.
Simon Stone is joined by set designer Lizzie Clachan, composer Stefan Gregory, lighting designer Nick Schlieper and casting director Jessica Ronane CDG.
The Oresteia is produced by London Theatre Company in collaboration with Wouter van Ransbeek, with further casting to be announced.
