Edinburgh Fringe Review: Flying Bubble Show at Underbelly Circus Hub

“The joy brought by bubbles is universal, beyond culture, age, and geography.”

Four Star Review from Theatre WeeklyProduced by Maxwell the Bubbleologist, The Flying Bubble Show is an absolutely magical immersive bubble show that combines bubble artistry, aerial choreography, storytelling and sensory exploration.

Maxwell has an astonishing ability to control bubbles, as if he could do anything in a dream. Without the aid of any tools, Maxwell creates countless bubbles with his hands, including bubbles filled with smoke. When Maxwell flies, the bubbles follow him, spinning and floating as if in weightless space. Maxwell manipulates the size and number of bubbles with the ease of training a puppy. The bubbles split, multiply, become larger and shrink in his hands, as if they were alive.

Maxwell blows the biggest, longest and most spectacular bubbles. All you have to do is take a deep breath and make a wish, and Maxwell’s magic will make your wish come true. The bubbles turn into ping-pong balls, bouncing joyfully on the bubble paddle. Long bubbles glide across the sky, leaving colourful marks like paint on a canvas. The bubbles constantly change into mesmerising colours, captivating the audience and keeping their eyes glued to the bubbles.

The lighting and music perfectly complement the atmosphere of The Flying Bubble Show. The thrilling symphony highlights the difficulty of blowing the most extraordinary bubbles. This show is not just about blowing bubbles; it also conveys the values of perseverance and smiling in the face of failure. Maxwell eventually fills the theatre with bubbles, captivating and delighting all the parents and children. As Maxwell said, the joy brought by bubbles is universal, beyond culture, age and geography.

Parents whose children enjoy popping bubbles can seat them in the first two rows of the circus. If you don’t want to get wet, the third row and beyond are your best choice. However, no matter where you sit, you can immerse yourself in the joyful atmosphere.
