First look images have been released of Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who, Sex Education) as Christopher Marlowe and Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve, My Lady Jane) as William Shakespeare in the West End premiere of Born With Teeth.

Presented by Playful Productions, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Elizabeth Williams, Born With Teeth is a thrilling new play by Liz Duffy Adams, directed by RSC Co-Artistic Director and two-time Olivier Award winner Daniel Evans.

This explosively entertaining duel of wits, words, and powerplay imagines a relationship between two literary icons at odds with their time.

Design is by Olivier Award-winner Joanna Scotcher, with lighting by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Neil Austin. Sound design is by George Dennis, video design by Andrzej Goulding, movement direction by Ira Mandela Siobhan, and casting by Charlotte Sutton CDG.

Understudies for the production are Matt Pettifor (William Shakespeare) and Justice Ritchie (Christopher Marlowe).

Born With Teeth plays for 11 weeks only at Wyndham’s Theatre, with preview performances from 13 August.

Christopher Marlowe is portrayed as the rockstar of Elizabethan theatre – a scandalous spy for the Crown, combining danger and seduction.

William Shakespeare is a jobbing actor and promising young playwright, dazzled by Marlowe and driven by ambitions of his own.

Based on the idea that Marlowe and Shakespeare may have collaborated on the Henry VI history plays, Liz Duffy Adams’ Born With Teeth is a playful and daring imagining of their relationship during an extraordinarily dangerous time for artists.
