Invisible Me will open at Southwark Playhouse Borough for a four‑week run from Wednesday 8 April to Saturday 2 May 2026, with press night on Friday 10 April.
The heartfelt and humorous play, written by Bren Gosling, follows three working‑class Londoners navigating the complexities of dating at sixty. Produced by BACKSTORY and Olivier‑nominated producer Joe Brown, the show challenges stereotypes around age, sexuality and connection.
Tessa Peake‑Jones, known for Only Fools and Horses, plays Lynn, a hotel cleaner with long‑buried desires. With decades of stage and screen experience, Peake‑Jones brings depth to the role, portraying a woman whose ordinary life becomes unexpectedly extraordinary.
The story also follows Jack, an HIV‑positive widower who must relearn intimacy after decades in a relationship, and Alec, a former punk whose swaggering confidence receives a reality check. Their intertwined journeys reveal the humour and vulnerability of finding love later in life.
Directed by Scott Le Crass, the production highlights narratives often overlooked on stage. Le Crass says, “When I first read Invisible Me what struck me was that it gave much needed space to older narratives that is refreshing, surprising and honest. The idea of not feeling seen or heard is so universal and what our sense of community means is something that I think has great importance at the moment.”
The creative team includes set and costume designer David Shields, lighting designer Jodie Underwood, sound designer Julian Starr and stage manager Dani White. Further casting is still to be announced.
Invisible Me runs for 75 minutes and is recommended for ages 16 plus due to references to domestic abuse, bereavement, loneliness, online sex and drug taking.
