London Theatre Company has announced that Simon Stone will write and direct a new production of The Oresteia, opening at the Bridge Theatre in July 2026. Casting will be revealed at a later date.
Previews begin on Thursday 2 July, with opening night on Tuesday 14 July. The production, created in collaboration with Wouter van Ransbeek, will run for 11 weeks until Saturday 19 September.
Stone, known for reimagining classic texts in bold and contemporary ways, returns to the Bridge following last yearās The Lady from the Sea, which starred Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln.
Speaking about the new production, Simon Stone said:
āThe Oresteia is one of the theatreās great foundational texts and it hasnāt lost any of its potency to this day. A family haunted by its part in an unjust war, the painful burden of inherited trauma and inter-generational conflict, the descent into an increasingly merciless vortex of violence: as long as humankind wages wars and as long as families tear themselves apart this story will remain painfully, cathartically relevant. It is with great excitement that we embark on bringing this tale into our times at the Bridge Theatre.ā
The production explores a contemporary family trapped in the world of Greek myth, unable to escape their destructive fate.
Stone reunites with the creative team behind The Lady from the Sea, including set designer Lizzie Clachan, costume designer Mel Page, composer Stefan Gregory, lighting designer Nick Schlieper, and casting director Jessica Ronane.
The Oresteia is produced by London Theatre Company and Wouter van Ransbeek. Priority booking for Bridge Theatre members is now open, with pre-sale for advance members and access patrons from Tuesday 31 March at 10am. Public booking begins Wednesday 1 April at 10am via bridgetheatre.co.uk.
