The Coronet Theatre has announced a pair of special poetry events taking place this June, bringing together award-winning contemporary poets and one of Britain’s most celebrated theatre-makers.

The West London venue has built a strong reputation for its Poetry Club and Dead Poets Live strands, which showcase intimate readings by leading poets alongside dramatised performances of classic works.

On Thursday 4 June, Poetry Club: Tishani Doshi, Asmaa Azaizeh & Isabelle Baafi will feature readings from three compelling voices in contemporary poetry.

Tishani Doshi will read from her collection Egrets, While War, while also presenting English translations of unpublished poems by Palestinian poet Asmaa Azaizeh, who will read her work in Arabic.

Isabelle Baafi will complete the evening with readings from her award-winning debut collection Chaotic Good.

Later in the month, Dead Poets Live returns with Briggflatts – An Autobiography by Basil Bunting, starring Simon McBurney, running from 19 to 21 June.

The production explores the life of British poet Basil Bunting and presents his landmark long poem Briggflatts in full, sixty years after its first publication.

Simon McBurney will perform the work while tracing Bunting’s extraordinary life, continuing Dead Poets Live’s tradition of presenting classic poetry for live audiences.
